Requirements and background
A large grocery retailer wanted to launch a new wholesale line of business to enable supply of their products to retailers and enable business growth
- Implement an end-to-end order-to-cash wholesale digital platform that can integrate with B2B, B2C, franchise and convenience customers
- Implement a platform which can seamlessly integrate with retail ERP systems and as well as third-party logistics systems and suppliers
- Automate the end-to-end customers on-boarding process to the wholesale platform to improve time to market
- Developing a scalable cloud native platform on AWS that can scale to on-board multiple customers and millions of transactions for the future growth of the business
What we did
- Mastek was involved from conceptualisation and worked with the customer to help them launch, operate and scale the new line of business successfully
- We conducted comprehensive requirements exercises with each department to gain an in-depth understanding of their core objectives, and collaboratively worked with the customer teams to deliver the end-to-end solution
- We built the wholesale digital platform that enables the customer to sell through retailers & increase the reach of its brand and products to a wider customer base
- As part of the solution, We delivered a portal that provides a common platform to the customers wholesale business providing both visibility and the ability to configure, manage and control the operations across multiple wholesale partners
- We delivered a fully automated digital platform which minimises data intervention and data maintenance, a customer grouping-based operating model, organising customer ranges effectively, a workflow and approval-based system and integration with third party logistics partners and other vendors backed by high throughput API infrastructure and hosted on AWS Cloud
Outcome
- Enabled the customer to launch a new line of business and generating new revenue streams
- The digital platform supports 9 major retailers and 180+ medium and small customers. The revenues from this new line of business have exceeded £1bn since launch
- Enabled selling products on Amazon Prime and Amazon.co.uk, extending their reach to more customers and geographies within the UK
- Customer base expanded by partnering with Deliveroo and Just Eat, extending their product range from takeaway food products to grocery items enabling customers to get groceries delivered home
- Platform currently supports hundreds of retailers, and provides the infrastructure required to roll out to more customers and increase the ability to do more business
- The customers online and wholesale businesses can use a single system to manage their business channels
- Saved 50 to 60% labour costs for the business
- Improved product accuracy, and enabled the ability to create in-day error reporting to prevent data issues. This has saved costs circa £0.5m annually by fixing product catalogue and pricing errors
