About Alinta Energy
Founded in 1995, Alinta Energy is a gas retailing and electricity-generating company based in Sydney, Australia. Privately owned by Hong Kong-based Chow Tai Fook Enterprises (CTFE), the company employs over 800 people across Australia and New Zealand and is focused on selling electricity and gas to millions of customers in the same regions.
About the Project
The Alinta team had designed several operational models in Excel, which were becoming increasingly complex and difficult to maintain. They needed significant manual intervention to reconcile between business centers and the rollover of quarterly forecasts. With Mastek Oracle EPM Cloud solution implementation, Alinta could effectively manage complex modules. This allowed the company to automate the reconciliation process and create a streamlined process for the rollover of quarterly forecasts.
Business Challenges
- Alinta faced change resistance from business partners due to the shift from trusted legacy models to a new tool.
- The company required day and half-hour level planning for each PowerGen turbine required.
- They had different budgeting models for each Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
- Continuous changes in the existing models and processes during the development phase resulted in hindrances.
Solution
- Instilling confidence in the group’s FP&A by timely and successful deployment of Sprint-1 to get acceptance from other business functions.
- Automated PowerGen planning at half-hour level by turbine, site and contract.
- Standardized yet flexible solution design to accommodate dynamic requirements of different models.
- Streamlined projects, CapEx and workforce planning across the organization.
